Alloy 600 Nickel
One of the best alloys for stress integrity and corrosion resistance.
Applications
Alloy 600 has superior mechanical properties that result in strength and workability as
well as resistance to heat and corrosion. This grade’s high nickel content also makes it
resistant to cracking. It is highly versatile and can be used in applications involving
temperatures from cryogenic to above 2000°F (1095°C). The alloy is also non-magnetic.
Common applications include: Chemical processing equipment, heat condensers and
exchangers, paper and pulp manufacturing equipment, aeronautical engine and
airframe components, transport rollers, industrial furnace muffles, roller hearths, steam
generator tubing, reactors vessels and support grids, offshore process equipment.
Properties
Alloy 600 is primarily composed of nickel (Ni), chromium (Cr), and iron (Fe). This
combination makes it resistant to corrosion and oxidation.
With a chemistry consisting of up to 72% Nickel, 14-17% Cr and 6-10% Fe, it is
primarily used in high temperature corrosive conditions.
- High corrosion resistance up to 2000°F (1095°C).
- Good structural strength and toughness
- Resistance to oxidation and scaling and carburizing and nitriding atmospheres
- Resistance to stress corrosion cracking and thermal fatigue
- Also called Inconel 600
- UNS # N06600
