President/CEO, Nelson, NZ

Hometown : Chicago, IL. Formerly lived in Tulsa and Perth. Currently living in Nelson, New Zealand.

Family : Wife, Marilyn, is a sculptor and painter. Daughter, Maura (Irish for Mary), married with two children and working in our New Zealand office. Son, Michael, is living in Sao Paulo, Brazil where he is an art director of two film festivals. I am the oldest of 12 children - 7 boys and 5 girls. At various times, 4 of my brothers have worked for Great Plains Stainless.

Professional Experience : I started out as a high school history teacher. When I began Transcendental Meditation I trained to teach that and did for several years. After starting a family, I switched to the steel business. I spent five years with other firms, then started Great Plains Stainless in Tulsa. In 1995, my family opened our warehouse in Perth, Australia. Last April (2000), we moved to Nelson, New Zealand.
